This is an on-line video of the special on PBS Independent Lens on the amazing, and outside of some circles, relatively unknown radio talent Petey Greene. I came across the link for this video this morning on the excellent website for urban radio, Urban Radio Nation. I had watched a twenty minute trailer for the special about a month ago and have been eagerly awaiting the release of the full video. Petey Greene was a radio talent way ahead of his time. A true original. Think Lenny Bruce on the air speaking the language of the inner city. Petey Greene let it all hang out. The Radio and TV broadcaster talked about ‘taboo’ subjects including racism, poverty, religion, sexuality, drug use, government issues, and one of his most well known bits, how to properly eat a watermelon. Enjoy the vid.
