Ok, this is actually fairly easy (well, nothing is that easy), and end result is that you'll have an aircheck or voiceover sampler or whatever have you, to post here or forward to any prospective employer or whomever rocks your boat.
First of all, you're going to need an application that will convert your mp3 or other audio file into a file that YouTube “likes.” You see, YouTube will not let you just upload an mp3 or other audio file and then convert it into a .flv file. So… what you have to do is convert the file into a video format and insert a picture or two.
Fortunately, Windows users have an application that handles this process in a drop dead simple manner. First of all, go download uMusic and follow the instruction for the install. It will also need the .Net Framework, so it may send you to the Microsoft site to install that as well. Once everything is installed, launch the application and insert the .mp3 file in that field and the .jpg(s) in the .jgp field, click “encode” and you're done.
On a Mac, I couldn't find a similar application that handles the encoding in in such a one-trick manner. I would suggest using iMovie. Insert the audio and a still picture or two and export as a QuickTime or MP4 file. YouTube likes those. QuickTime Pro will also work, bit the upgrade to Pro will cost you a couple of dollars. Allegedly Snow Leopard will have the Pro features in QuickTime by default. Just use iMovie and be done with it.
Now head over to YouTube, sign into your account and click the “upload” link at the top of the page. Select the file you just encoded and fill out your info and in a moment or two, your file will be live on YouTube. Here's a couple of screen captures so you get the idea.
Once all the YouTube encoding and uploading is done, to insert it here on the board, click the movie icon on the format panel, it's the one just to the right of the picture icon. An upload window will pop up, select “flash” in the pop-up menu as the “Type” and insert your YouTube link in the “File/URL field. Select your proportions if you like and click “insert.” That's it, you're done!
Your inserted YouTube aircheck/vo/whatever will look something like the embedded video below.
