  • Emmis Again Postpones Shareholder Vote
    It’s not over yet: Emmis adjourns this morning’s special shareholder meeting without a vote and reschedules for Wednesday, September 8. Emmis and Chairman/CEO Jeff Smulyan are continuing to negotiate with both the group of preferred shareholders that have been holding up Smulyan’s bid to take the company private, and with Alden Global Capital, which on Monday backed away from its part in financing the transaction. Although we believe that an agreement among the various parties remains unlikely, we believe the extension is warranted due to the continuing discussions.”
  • East Coast Preps For Hurricane Earl
    Hurricane Earl is moving in toward the U.S. East Coast, and residents — and radio — are getting ready, with regular on-air and online news updates, information, and recommendations for being prepared. Curtis Media’s WPTF/Raleigh is preparing to start 12 hours of continuous hurricane coverage tonight, when the storm is expected to hit the state’s Outer Banks.
  • Chase Moves Up To Beasley/Vegas OM
    As Beasley Broadcast Group takes over management of GGB Las Vegas’ Rhythmic AC KOAS and Alternative KVGS, Justin Chase (left) becomes OM of Beasley’s four FMs in the market. He’s been serving as PD of Classic Hits KKLZ and Country KCYE. Also, Sean Lynch returns to Beasley as PD for KOAS and KVGS.
  • Hot Becomes Jamz At CCR/Hawaii
    Clear channel radio today flipped Rhythmic KIKI-FM/Honolulu to a “Generation X Rhythmic” format with Hawaiian influences as “93.3 Jamz.” Ryan Sean is the PD. KIKI changes calls to KHJZ and the “Hot 93.9″ programming moves to the HD2 subchannel.
  • Brooks Hits The Road With Country Countdown Tour
    Kix Brooks, host of Citadel Media’s American Country Countdown, is taking the radio show on the road, broadcasting at least once a month from an affiliate’s studio throughout 2011.
  • Levingston Joins NAB Radio Board
    ICBC Broadcast Holdings VP/GM Deon Levingston is appointed to the NAB Radio Board. He’ll represent District 1, covering New York and New Jersey radio members.
  • Slutzkin Picked As WLS PD
    Tracy Slutzkin has been promoted to program director of Citadel News/Talk WLS-AM/Chicago, Robert Feder reports at vocalo.org.
  • NYMRAD Hosts ‘Rated R’ For Radio
    New York Market Radio will host the “Rated R” event in Times Square on September 28, during Ad Week. The event will feature keynoter Sir Richard Branson and Westwood One personality Dennis Miller, and the aim is to educate advertisers and show them that radio is not a “dirty little word.”
  • Peconic Public Broadcasting Gets Extension For WLIU Purchase
    Peconic Public Broadcasting has been given a 72-hour extension to come up with the last payment for WLIU/Long Island. PPB, formed to buy the station and keep its format after Long Island University announced plans to sell, will be put back up for sale if the group can’t raise the remaining $637,000, the East Hampton Press reports.
  • Dial Global Personalities Debut On AFRN
    Dial Global personalities including Ed Schultz and Stephanie Miller will be heard on the Armed Forces Radio Network, by way of the upcoming “PowerTalk” station.

  • New Emmis delay; meeting today.
    Emmis Communications shareholders are being asked to attend their second special meeting in less than 24 hours. For the seventh time, a scheduled meeting was postponed last night and rescheduled for this morning. The reasoning behind the latest delay isn’t clear. MORE
  • Stern angles for three-day workweek.
    Based on the tenor of his latest on-air rant, Howard Stern doesn’t appear to be close to signing a new deal with Sirius XM. Stern said Thursday he’s “pretty sure” he’ll be leaving when his five-year contract with the satcaster expiries at year-end. What’s not among his “Plan B” options? Terrestrial radio.
  • FCC activates disaster system.
    With Hurricane Earl climbing up the Eastern Seaboard today and tomorrow, the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau has activated the FCC’s Disaster Information Reporting System (DIRS) for 13 North Carolina counties. MORE

  • Beatles milestone.
    Las Vegas air personality Dennis Mitchell will mark his 1,000th “Breakfast with the Beatles” broadcast this weekend. The program is heard on dozens of stations in the U.S., Canada and internationally. Mitchell says to mark the occasion he’s produced a two-hour retrospective of Beatles history and the basis for his show.
  • Pakistani relief PSAs released.
    The Ad Council has begun distributing public service announcements to radio and television stations urging people to make donations to relief agencies helping the millions affected by the flooding in Pakistan. The floods have impacted more people than the Haitian earthquake and 2004 Asian tsunami combined. MORE
  • Levingston joins NAB board.
    Inner City Broadcasting VP/GM Deon Levingston has joined the NAB Radio Board of Directors. Levingston, who oversees New York’s urban AC WBLS (107.5) and gospel WLIB (1190), will represent NAB radio members in New York and New Jersey (District 1).
